Fairness

“This is not fair! Why do my parents like my sister more than me?” “Why did they get accepted by the best school when I am more qualified?” “Why did he get the bonus when I am working harder?” “ Why did they get served first when we came earlier?” “Why …”

When we were children, we were fascinated with questions of fairness. In adulthood, the feelings of being treated unfairly are amplified. The fact is that the focus on fairness is actually a distraction. It is unnecessary to excuse our “failure” by comparing with others. It is not because we are not good. It is because no one is perfect and there is always someone better than us in certain fields. There will always be someone born richer, prettier, with better talents. When we are trapped in such competition, we are comparing ourselves with the whole world, leading us to feel helpless. Then we start complaining: “it’s not fair.”

The solution is simple. Let’s be ourselves and be proud of what we have. We cannot be someone else and no need to compare. We are all human but we are all unique. Let’s focus on our uniqueness and enjoy it.
